• Our city government supports the project’s completion and is committed to the fountains’ ongoing maintenance.

• Surrounding property owners are engaged. They see the project’s vision and understand that unprecedented growth leaves little open space for joy and inspiration.

• At this moment in time, and international symbol, the Fountains project – celebrating music, art and civic space –is something we can all come together and support.

• The constellation of city support, increasing costs, WET’s fountains design and increased density dictate that the time is now.

WHY NOW?

The city’s growth has placed new demands on its public spaces. More than ever, visitors and Nashvillians crave beautiful places to gather, relax, converse and think.

Since Musica was unveiled the Nashville Urban Area population has increased more than 65 percent. In the same time frame, Nashville’s park system has grown approximately 40 percent. Despite impressive gains, the city’s green spaces are not keeping up with our phenomenal population growth. The rapidly increasing Midtown and Downtown building density means it is critical to capture and preserve open spaces now.

The city plans to reconfigure the Buddy Killen Circle which offers the opportunity for a coordinated and cost-effective project. This important component of our public-private partnership is a driving force behind the timing of the Fountains’ installation. NDOT’s priority for the roundabout is safety for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers as well as improved traffic flow.

As Nashville’s international profile grows, the city calls for a symbol consistent with its creative and intellectual energy, providing inspiration for generations to come. The completed project will include enhanced park space, new green space, amphitheater seating, a redesigned roundabout, in addition to three glorious fountains.

“To preserve this invaluable workforce, it is imperative to invest in robust cultural infrastructure.”
